Overview

Paleo Palette is an educational art kit that introduces children ages 6–11 to Paleolithic painting techniques through historically accurate materials, pigments, and creative activities. The kit encourages children to discover the processes prehistoric people used for cave painting through trial and error.
Challenge

Most children's art kits prioritize entertainment over historical accuracy. Paleo Palette instead balances educational authenticity with accessibility, encouraging curiosity about prehistoric art, pre-history, and art practices in general, all while remaining engaging for young audiences.

Narrative       
         
Every material in Paleo Palette was chosen for historical accuracy and functions as the product of extensive research into Paleolithic pigments and tools. The kit includes charcoal, red iron oxide, yellow ochre, and rendered fat, packaged inside a fully handcrafted leather pouch. Tools are deliberately excluded; children are forced to experiment with their fingers and whatever they can find in the yard, just as Paleolithic people once did. The instruction manual reinforces this hands-on approach, showing real cave paintings alongside guidance for creating their own. In this way, Paleo Palette teaches history not through explanation, but through the same trial-and-error experience that produced it in the first place.
